Lincoln Navigator vs. Jeep Grand Wagoneer: Full Size Luxury in St. Charles County

Silver Lincoln Navigator driving a curving hillside road in late afternoon sun

Compare  |  St. Peters, MO

Two big three row luxury SUVs with very different personalities, and which one fits the way St. Charles County families drive.

Shoppers who end up cross shopping these two usually start in the same place. They need three real rows, they want something nicer than a work truck with leather, and they drive enough highway miles that comfort matters. After that, the Lincoln Navigator and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer head in different directions.

We sell the Lincoln Navigator, so read this knowing where we sit. We've tried to be straight about where the Jeep Grand Wagoneer does well, because a buyer who picks the wrong truck for their life isn't a happy customer for either brand. Everything here refers to the 2025 model year unless we say otherwise.

Quick answer: Pick the Lincoln Navigator if you want a quiet, lounge style cabin, standard BlueCruise hands free highway driving on the 2025 model, and the Split Gate rear door. Pick the Jeep Grand Wagoneer if you want twin turbo inline six power, serious off road hardware and a premium audio system as part of the deal. Both have three rows and four wheel drive.

Both offer

Three rows and four wheel drive

Quiet ride and highway tech

Jeep Grand Wagoneer leans

Power and off road gear

How Are the Lincoln Navigator and Jeep Grand Wagoneer Different?

On paper they're close. Both are full size, body on frame SUVs with three rows, twin turbocharged engines and four wheel drive. Both come in a standard length and a longer version, the Lincoln Navigator L and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, for families that need more room behind the third row.

The difference is in what each one was built to put first. The Lincoln Navigator was redesigned for 2025 around calm. The cabin is tuned for quiet, the screens stretch wide and low, and the tech leans into easing a long highway drive. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer puts more weight on muscle and capability, with a twin turbo inline six and 4x4 hardware that comes from Jeep's off road side.

Neither approach is wrong. It comes down to which one sounds like your week.

Which One Rides and Drives Better on Missouri Highways?

On I-70 between St. Peters and Warrenton, the Lincoln Navigator feels like it was made for the trip. It's very quiet at highway speed, quiet enough that reviewers say you can barely hear the engine. The ride soaks up expansion joints and rough patches without much fuss. One reviewer noted the larger optional wheels firm up the ride, so try the wheel size you'd buy.

The Lincoln Navigator uses a twin turbocharged V6 with a 10 speed automatic and standard four wheel drive. It moves the size of the vehicle with confidence, though some testers say the transmission can take a beat to downshift when you ask for passing power on a two lane like Highway 79.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer uses Jeep's Hurricane twin turbo inline six with an eight speed automatic, and it's the stronger feeling of the two when you put your foot down. If you like a big SUV that pulls hard up the Highway 364 ramps, that's a point in its favor. Ask our team or a Jeep dealer for current output and towing numbers on the exact trim, since they vary by version and package.

It comes down to which one sounds like your week.

How Do the Cabins and Technology Compare?

The Lincoln Navigator's signature is a 48 inch panoramic display across the dashboard, paired with a center touchscreen running the Lincoln Digital Experience. It looks clean and modern. The trade off is that more functions live in menus, and a few reviewers wish the center screen were bigger for a vehicle this size.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer goes the other way with screen count. Jeep says up to 75 inches of total screen area is available, including a center touchscreen and a standard passenger screen for the 2025 model. A McIntosh audio system is part of the package, and audio fans tend to remember it after a test drive.

For highway help, every 2025 Lincoln Navigator comes with BlueCruise hands free driving on approved highways, with four years of service included. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer offers its own Active Driving Assist system. Both are driver assistance, not self driving, and both expect you to keep your eyes on the road.

Which One Works Better for a Big Family?

Both handle three rows of people. The Lincoln Navigator offers seating for up to eight depending on configuration, and reviewers like seat comfort in all three rows. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer also seats up to eight in some configurations, with seven as the other layout depending on trim and package.

Cargo depends heavily on which length you pick. If you regularly fill the third row and still need room for strollers, hockey bags or luggage, look hard at the Lincoln Navigator L or the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L. The standard length versions of both get tight behind row three.

The Lincoln Navigator has one feature that daily family life tends to love. The Split Gate rear door opens the upper glass section like a liftgate, and a lower section folds down like a tailgate you can sit on. It's handy at a soccer field in O'Fallon or a tailgate before a game. Reviewers mention it's harder to reach the base of the third row seatback on the Lincoln Navigator L, so try it with your own gear.

The Lincoln Navigator fits you if

  • Most of your miles are highway miles and a quiet cabin matters to you
  • You want hands free highway driving included on the 2025 model
  • The Split Gate sounds useful for sports, tailgates or loading the dog
  • You want Lincoln Black Label ownership perks available on upper trims

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer fits you if

  • You want a big six cylinder that pulls hard when you floor it
  • Real off road hardware matters for trails, farm roads or boat ramps
  • A premium McIntosh audio system is high on your list
  • You like a passenger screen so the front seat can run music and maps

Which Handles Missouri Weather and Weekend Towing?

Both come with four wheel drive, so neither will leave you stuck at the bottom of an icy subdivision hill in Cottleville. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has the edge if your weekends involve deep mud, a muddy gravel lane to a hunting lease, or a steep wet boat ramp, since its available 4x4 systems include low range hardware built for that.

For towing a boat to Lake of the Ozarks or a camper to a state park, both are serious tow vehicles. The Lincoln Navigator offers a Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package with extra help for long climbs. Ratings vary by length, trim and equipment on both, so compare the exact numbers on the window stickers before you decide.

St. Peters driver tip

If you're deciding between these two, drive both on the same loop. Take I-70 west to Lake St. Louis for highway noise, then cut down to Highway 94 toward Defiance and the Katy Trail for the curves. Big SUVs feel very different on a winding two lane, and that's where the comparison gets clear.

What Does Ownership Look Like for Each One?

Service is close to home for both around St. Charles County. With the Lincoln Navigator, owners here get our service drive on North Service Road, Lincoln Mobile Service for many jobs at home or work, and complimentary Pickup and Delivery while the vehicle is inside its 4 year or 50,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty. Upper Lincoln Navigator trims can be ordered as Lincoln Black Label, which adds its own ownership perks.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has its own dealer network and warranty terms, and you should read them before you buy. Both are expensive vehicles to buy and insure, so compare total cost and incentives along with the window sticker. Our 2026 Lincoln Navigator comparison page lines the Lincoln Navigator up against other full size rivals if you want to keep shopping.

One store specific difference is Warranty Forever, which applies to qualifying vehicles bought here. That's covered in the band below.

Questions Owners Ask About Size and Seating

Is the Lincoln Navigator L much bigger than the standard Lincoln Navigator?

The Lincoln Navigator L adds length, and most of that shows up as cargo space behind the third row. If you fill all three rows often, it's worth a look.

Can adults ride in the third row of a Jeep Grand Wagoneer?

Reviewers generally find it usable for adults on shorter trips. Sit back there yourself, since comfort depends on your height and the seat layout.

Do both come with captain's chairs?

Second row captain's chairs or a bench depend on trim and options in both. Ask for the layout you want when you check inventory.

Questions Owners Ask About Technology

Is BlueCruise standard on the Lincoln Navigator?

On the 2025 Lincoln Navigator, BlueCruise is standard, with four years of service included. After that period, ask about continuing the service.

Does the Jeep Grand Wagoneer have hands free driving?

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer offers Active Driving Assist. Check with a Jeep dealer for which version a given trim includes and how it works.

Is the big Lincoln Navigator screen hard to use?

Most owners settle in quickly. The wide display is for information, and the center touchscreen handles most controls. Spend some of your test drive working the menus.

Questions Owners Ask About Engines and Fuel

Does either one come with a V8?

No. For 2025 the Lincoln Navigator uses a twin turbo V6, and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer uses a twin turbo inline six.

Which one gets better fuel economy?

Both are big, heavy SUVs, and figures change by trim and length. Compare the EPA labels on the specific vehicles you're considering.

Do they need premium fuel?

Check the owner's guide and fuel door label for each. Recommendations can differ between the two and by engine version.

Questions Owners Ask About Buying a Lincoln Navigator

Should I wait for the 2026 Lincoln Navigator?

Ask the sales team what's been announced and what's in stock. A 2025 model on the lot may come with incentives that a newer one doesn't.

Can I trade in my current SUV toward a Lincoln Navigator?

Yes. Start with an online trade value, and the team will confirm it after seeing the vehicle.

Can I get pre approved before I shop?

Yes. Fill out our online pre approval and our Finance Department will reach out.

Questions Owners Ask About Driving Them Back to Back

Can I test drive a Lincoln Navigator and Lincoln Navigator L the same day?

If both are in stock, yes. Call 636-441-4400 ahead of time so the team has them ready.

How long should a test drive be for a full size SUV?

Long enough to try a highway merge, a parking lot and a winding road. Twenty to thirty minutes is a good start.

Lincoln Navigator vs. Infiniti QX80: Full Size Luxury for St. Charles County

Compare  |  St. Peters, MO Two big three row SUVs with twin turbo V6 engines and very different ideas about what luxury should feel like. This is how they line up for families and towing around here. Both of these SUVs got serious redesigns recently, and both dropped the V8 for a twin turbo V6. So the old shorthand about engines doesn't help much anymore. The Lincoln Navigator and the Infiniti QX80 now split on cabin design, cargo layout, size options and the driver assist systems that do the work on a long highway run. We sell the Lincoln Navigator, so we have a side in this. We've tried to be fair to the Infiniti QX80 anyway, because it's a good SUV and some shoppers are going to like it more. What follows covers how each one drives, where each one makes the most sense for a St. Charles County household, and the questions to bring on a test drive. Quick answer: Choose the Lincoln Navigator if you want the ultrawide 48 inch panoramic display, the two piece Split Gate, and the option of the longer Lincoln Navigator L for more cargo behind the third row. Choose the Infiniti QX80 if you like features such as biometric cooling for second row passengers, Invisible Hood View for tight parking and Klipsch audio. Both offer three rows and hands free highway driving on select trims. Engines Twin turbo V6 in both Lincoln only Lincoln Navigator L, Split Gate Infiniti QX80 only Biometric cooling In this post How they compare Inside the cabin Cargo and seating Highway and towing How to decide How Do the Lincoln Navigator and Infiniti QX80 Compare? On paper they look closer than they used to. The Lincoln Navigator runs a twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 with a 10 speed automatic. The Infiniti QX80 switched to its own twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 when it was redesigned for 2025, paired with a nine speed automatic. Both have three rows and both are built to tow. Where they part ways is the feel inside. The Lincoln Navigator leans into a wide, open cabin with one screen that runs across the dash. The Infiniti QX80 uses two 14.3 inch touchscreens plus a separate 9 inch screen for climate, seats and drive modes. Neither layout is wrong. Sit in both and you'll know quickly which one you'd rather live with. We keep a side by side on our 2026 Lincoln Navigator comparison page if you want to see how the Lincoln Navigator lines up against the Infiniti QX80 and two other full size rivals. Which One Has the Nicer Cabin and Technology? The Lincoln Navigator's centerpiece is its 48 inch panoramic display across the dash, with Lincoln Digital Experience built on Google. Available Lincoln Rejuvenate pairs seat massage, heating and ventilation with lighting, sound and scent while you're parked. Black Label themes like Atmospheric add quilted seat inserts and their own materials. The Infiniti QX80 has a few clever ideas of its own. Biometric cooling detects when a second row passenger is warm and cools them automatically, which is a real perk on a humid July afternoon in the 90s. Klipsch audio comes in 14 or 24 speaker versions, and an available air suspension can adjust ride height. The Lincoln Navigator fits you if You want one wide display instead of separate screens You need more cargo room behind the third row and would consider the Lincoln Navigator L You like the idea of a split tailgate you can sit on at a game You want BlueCruise hands free highway driving and plan to keep a plan active The Infiniti QX80 fits you if You want biometric cooling for kids in the second row You park in tight garages and like the Invisible Hood View camera You prefer a dedicated control screen for climate and seats You want seating for eight with a second row bench Shop the Lincoln Navigator Value Your Trade Which Is Better for Cargo, Car Seats and the Third Row? Size choice is the clearest difference. The Lincoln Navigator comes in a standard length and the longer Lincoln Navigator L, which adds room behind the third row. If you haul hockey bags, a stroller and groceries in the same trip, that extra length matters. The Lincoln Navigator's third row splits 40/20/40, so you can fold one side for long items and still seat a passenger. The Lincoln Split Gate is the other piece. It opens in two parts, and the lower half can serve as a seat, which is handy at a Saturday soccer game or a summer evening at Frontier Park. The Infiniti QX80 offers up to eight seats with a second row bench, and captain's chairs are available. Bring the car seats you use every day and try them in both before you decide. Sit in both and you'll know quickly which one you'd rather live with. Which Is Better for Highway Trips and Towing? Both handle a weekend run to Lake of the Ozarks. Lincoln BlueCruise offers hands free driving on qualifying divided highways with an active plan or trial. The Infiniti QX80's ProPILOT Assist 2.1 also allows hands off driving in certain highway conditions and is offered on select trims. Both systems need you watching the road. For towing, both are rated for real loads when properly equipped. Ask our team for the exact Lincoln Navigator rating on the vehicle you're looking at, since drivetrain and packages change it. For 2027, rear wheel drive is standard on the Lincoln Navigator with four wheel drive available, and Ford Authority reports the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package comes only with four wheel drive. St. Peters driver tip Test drive both on the same loop: Mid Rivers Mall Drive to I-70, west to the Highway 79 exit, then back toward the store on Mexico Road. You'll get stop and go, a highway merge and a slower surface road in about half an hour, which tells you more than a lap around the block. How Should a St. Charles County Family Choose Between Them? Start with how you use the back of the vehicle. If the third row and cargo area get full most weekends, the Lincoln Navigator L is hard to match. If your third row mostly stays folded and you care more about clever comfort features up front, the Infiniti QX80 deserves a long look. Then think about where you'll get it serviced. The Lincoln Navigator from our store can come with complimentary Pickup and Delivery while it's inside the new vehicle limited warranty, which saves a trip to the store on service days. Warranty Forever on qualifying vehicles A qualifying Lincoln Navigator bought from our store can include Warranty Forever, which covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts for as long as you own it, with no deductible. The coverage stays with you, not the vehicle, so it doesn't transfer to the next owner. Learn About Warranty Forever Questions Shoppers Ask About Engines and Driving Does the Infiniti QX80 still have a V8? + No. Infiniti replaced the V8 with a twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 when the Infiniti QX80 was redesigned for 2025. Does the Lincoln Navigator come with four wheel drive? + Yes. For 2027, rear wheel drive is standard and four wheel drive is available on every trim. Many St. Charles County buyers choose four wheel drive for winter roads. Which one is quieter on the highway? + Both are built for quiet cruising. Drive them back to back on I-70 at the same speed and listen for yourself, since road surface makes a big difference. Questions Shoppers Ask About Hands Free Driving Is BlueCruise the same as ProPILOT Assist 2.1? + They do similar jobs. Each allows hands free or hands off driving in certain highway conditions, and each has its own rules for where it works. Neither replaces an attentive driver. Does BlueCruise need a subscription? + BlueCruise needs an active plan or trial. Ask us what's included on the Lincoln Navigator you're looking at. Is ProPILOT Assist 2.1 on every Infiniti QX80? + No. Infiniti offers it on select trims, so check the specific vehicle's equipment list. Questions Shoppers Ask About Space and Seating What is the Lincoln Navigator L? + It's the longer version of the Lincoln Navigator, with more cargo room behind the third row. Can the Infiniti QX80 seat eight? + Yes, with a second row bench. Captain's chairs are available and reduce seating to seven. What is the Lincoln Split Gate? + It's a rear gate that opens in two parts. The lower section can be used as a seat, a lot like a pickup tailgate. Questions Shoppers Ask About Features What is biometric cooling on the Infiniti QX80? + It detects when a second row passenger is too warm and directs cool air to them automatically. What is Lincoln Rejuvenate? + It's an available Lincoln Navigator feature that combines seat massage, heating and ventilation with lighting, audio, scent and imagery. It only works while the vehicle is in Park. Do both have premium audio? + Yes. The Lincoln Navigator offers a 28 speaker Revel Ultima 3D system, and the Infiniti QX80 offers Klipsch audio with 14 or 24 speakers. The 2025 Lincoln Navigator: What Changed in the New Generation

New Model Year  |  St. Peters, MO Lincoln redesigned its full size flagship for 2025. New face, new cabin, a tailgate that turns into a seat, and the same proven V6 underneath. We've had more calls about the new Navigator this winter than about anything else on the lineup. Most start the same way. Someone saw photos of that dashboard screen and wants to know if it looks that big in person. It does. The 2025 Lincoln Navigator is the start of a new generation, and nearly everything you see and touch has been redone. Some of the important parts were left alone on purpose. Below is what changed, what stayed the same, and what St. Charles County families should look at when the first ones reach our lot this spring. Quick answer: The 2025 Lincoln Navigator gets a new exterior, a new interior with a 48 inch panoramic display, a split tailgate, the Lincoln Rejuvenate wellness feature and BlueCruise hands free highway driving on every trim. The twin turbo V6, 10 speed automatic and four wheel drive carry over. The lineup is now Reserve and Black Label, each offered in standard length or as the longer Navigator L. Trims Reserve and Black Label Lengths Navigator and Navigator L Carried over Twin turbo V6 and 4WD In this post The new look The split tailgate The new cabin What stayed the same Trims and tech Shopping one in St. Peters What Looks Different on the Outside? Lincoln gave the Navigator the same design direction it introduced on the current Lincoln Nautilus. Up front, the lights are slimmer, the grille is wider, and the Lincoln star in the middle lights up. Around back, a light bar wraps across the tailgate. Wheel sizes run to 22 and 24 inches depending on the trim and package. The bigger wheels look great in the driveway. If you drive a lot of rough pavement in the spring, ask to ride on both sizes before you choose, since tire sidewall height changes how sharp bumps feel. The look will divide people the way bold redesigns always do. Our advice is to see it in person, in daylight, before deciding how you feel. Photos don't show the proportions well. How Does the New Split Tailgate Work? This is the change owners are most likely to use every week. The tailgate now opens in two pieces. The large upper glass and panel section lifts like a normal liftgate, and a lower section folds down to make a ledge you can sit on or slide gear across. Because the upper section is smaller than a full liftgate, it needs less room to swing up. That helps in a garage with a low ceiling or a tight spot at a busy lot. The lower ledge gives you a place to sit and lace up boots, change a toddler's shoes or hand out drinks at a game. St. Peters driver tip Think about where you'd use that tailgate seat. A Friday night football game in Cottleville, a pause at the Katy Trail trailhead in Defiance before a ride, or a picnic at Quail Ridge Park are the kind of stops where a built in bench earns its keep. When you test drive, park, drop the lower gate and sit on it with your own gear. What Changed Inside the Cabin? The change you notice first is the 48 inch panoramic display that runs along the base of the windshield, nearly pillar to pillar. Below it sits an 11.1 inch center touchscreen that runs most of the controls. When the vehicle is parked, the wide screen can be used for things like video, which makes a long wait in a pickup line a lot easier. Lincoln also added Lincoln Rejuvenate. While you're parked, a 5 or 10 minute program reclines the driver's seat, adds heat and massage, shifts the cabin lighting, plays soundscapes and can release a light scent. It sounds like a gimmick until you try it after a long day. Seating stays generous. The Navigator still seats up to eight, and second row captain's chairs are available. Front seats have a lot of power adjustment, and heat and cooling up front come standard. The Black Label trim adds richer materials and its own interior themes. It sounds like a gimmick until you try it after a long day. See the Lincoln Navigator Browse New Inventory What Carried Over From the Previous Navigator? Under the new body, the drivetrain is familiar. The 2025 Lincoln Navigator keeps the twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 and the 10 speed automatic, with four wheel drive on every model. Lincoln didn't announce changes to its power or towing ratings, so expect it to drive much like the outgoing Navigator. That's good news for anyone who tows. A known engine and transmission with years of road time behind them is a comfort when you're pulling a boat to Lake of the Ozarks. A Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package is offered, standard on Black Label and optional on Reserve. For the exact towing rating on a specific vehicle, check its window sticker and the owner's guide, and ask our team to walk you through the package. The Navigator L also returns. It's the longer wheelbase version, with more cargo room behind the third row, and it's offered on both trims. Which Trims and Driver Assistance Features Are Offered? Lincoln trimmed the lineup to two. Reserve is now the starting point, and Black Label sits above it. The former Premiere trim isn't part of the 2025 lineup. Each trim can be ordered as a Navigator or a Navigator L, and packages like the Jet Appearance Package on Reserve change the look further. BlueCruise hands free highway driving comes standard on every 2025 Lincoln Navigator, with several years of service included before a subscription comes into play. BlueCruise works on prequalified sections of divided highway, and the driver still has to watch the road. Other Lincoln Co-Pilot360 features vary by trim, so review the window sticker for the vehicle you're interested in. Black Label buyers also get Lincoln's Black Label ownership program. Ask our team how those benefits apply to a 2025 Navigator Black Label, since the program has its own terms. How Should St. Charles County Families Shop the New Navigator? Early in a new generation, the right vehicle can take some patience. Call us at 636-441-4400 for the latest timing on arrivals, or to talk about ordering one built the way you want. 1 Pick the length first Measure your garage, then decide if you need the extra cargo room of the Navigator L. That choice narrows everything else. 2 Choose Reserve or Black Label Sit in both if you can. Look at the seats, the interior themes and what each trim includes before you add packages. 3 Ride in every row Put someone tall in the third row and see how they fit. That's the seat that usually decides a three row SUV. 4 Plan your trade If you're replacing an older Navigator or another SUV, start the online trade estimate so you know where you stand. Give yourself a full test drive, not a lap around the block. A run east on I-70 toward the Blanchette Bridge and back on Highway 364 shows you highway noise, BlueCruise on a real road, and how the big SUV feels in merging traffic. Warranty Forever on qualifying vehicles Buy a qualifying Lincoln from us and Warranty Forever covers listed powertrain parts for as long as you own it. Four wheel drive is standard. How much can the 2025 Lincoln Navigator tow? + It depends on the configuration and whether it has the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package. Check the window sticker and the owner's guide, or ask our team for the rating on a specific vehicle.
